Health insurance is a "your money or your life" topic. You should know exactly how the guides on this site are made, who checks them, and how we get paid. This page is that explanation, in plain language.
Every dollar figure, date, and rule in a guide is meant to trace to a public primary source. The ones we rely on most:
Where a guide gives a number, it names the source and the date it was checked. Where we could not find a reliable figure, the guide says so instead of guessing.
Drafts are prepared with the help of AI writing tools, working from the sources above and from what our advisors see in real client work. We use those tools for speed and consistency, not for facts: a model's memory is never treated as a source.
A licensed health insurance advisor reviews every guide before it is published. The review checks that the rules are described correctly, that the numbers match their sources, that private underwritten plans are described with their real limitations (they can decline, surcharge, or exclude conditions and are not ACA coverage), and that the guide says plainly when a marketplace plan is the better choice.
The reviewing advisor's license details are on our licensing and disclosures page, and any producer can be verified through the National Insurance Producer Registry or your state's insurance department lookup. We keep advisor names off the guides on purpose: the site is a neutral matching service, and the advisor you talk to depends on your state and language, not on who wrote the page.
Each guide shows when it was last updated. We re-check a guide when something it relies on changes — a new plan year's premiums, a change to subsidy rules, a new open-enrollment window — and update the date only when the content actually changed.
SmartHealthMatch is free to use. When you enroll in a plan through one of our advisors, the insurance carrier pays that advisor a commission. Using an advisor never raises a marketplace premium — filed rates are the same whether you enroll directly or through a licensed advisor. Details are on the disclosures page.
Email privacy@smarthealthmatch.com with the page and the issue. We aim to respond within five business days and to correct confirmed errors as soon as they are verified.
Not a government website. Marketplace coverage is also available at HealthCare.gov. SmartHealthMatch is not affiliated with SmartMatch Insurance Agency, a Medicare insurance agency.
